The free visit allows you to discover, while strolling in a reconstructed Parisian street, a collection of more than 300 animated automatons which were exhibited for the Christmas holidays between 1920 and 1960 in the windows of Parisian department stores such as Les Galeries Lafayette, La Samaritaine, Le Bon Marché and Le Magasins du Louvre. The visit immerses you in the heart of the golden age of automata in a museum that aims to be immersive.
More than 10 different scenes are offered, each having been created by the Ateliers Roullet-Decamps (in Paris) and previously imagined by the famous illustrators Peynet, Dubout and Effel. They found their inspiration in current events of their time and added a poetic, magical or burlesque touch.
The Musée des Automates offers passers-by a journey through time and space to dream with these fabulous shop window actors and relive the magic of another era.
