Through the streets of Falaise, birthplace of William the Conqueror, follow our guide to discover Falaise during the Second World War. From the Occupation to Reconstruction through the fighting of the summer of 1944, this surprising visit promises to be rich in anecdotes and remarkable heritage.

Strolls in our villages

Commented walks accessible to all, where testimonies and often little-known local anecdotes intertwine to inform the “Great” story.

Summer at the Falaise Memorial
Educational animation “Objects have a story”
During your visit to the Falaise Memorial, travel back in time thanks to everyday objects from the past. Ration tickets, shoes with wooden soles and even gas masks have many anecdotes to reveal to you! A lively way to better understand the history and living conditions of the French during the war.

August 17 and 18!
On Saturday August 17 and Sunday August 18, to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of the Pays de Falaise, the visit to the Falaise Memorial will be offered at the single price of €4,50.
The visit will be free for residents of the Pays de Falaise Community of Communes (upon presentation of proof).
Theatrical walks
A living immersion in the history of Falaise during the Second World War.

Specially on the occasion of the 80th Anniversary of the Landing and the Battle of Normandy, the company “Si l’enVie m’ait conté” is offering you a dramatized walk in Falaise during which you will be told the life of Falaise civilians during the Second World War. Inspired by real events, the different scenes played by the two actors will allow you to discover Falaise and the daily life of its inhabitants in times of war in an immersive way.

Lantern Company : « Cliff, goodbye war » in Falaise – Wednesday August 14
From 1943, the resistance fighters of the Pays de Falaise braved all dangers at the risk of their lives. In June 1944, the Allied landings were announced. The black wings whir, we deplore the first civilian victims of the bombings. The inhabitants take refuge in the countryside. On their return, they will experience a hellish night in mid-August before the liberation of Falaise. In seven scenes, relive the pages of the history of the summer of 44 in Falaise: an immersion in the heart of the events; an interactive human fresco, in period costumes, to experience with emotion, and smiles too; a tribute to the civilian victims of the last war and to those whose energy alone made it possible to rebuild our present.
