Final stage of the Battle of Normandy: La Poche de Falaise-Chambois.

From August 19 to 22, 1944, in the Falaise-Chambois pocket, the final stage of the Battle of Normandy took place: the Allied troops surrounded the 5th and 7th German armies which, after a desperate fight, surrendered, opening the road to Paris and Germany.
Tragic period, which saw the death of thousands of soldiers and civilians. Built on Hill 262, where the most violent clashes took place, the Montormel-Coudehard memorial keeps alive the memory of those who gave their lives for the liberation of France, and particularly the First Polish Armored Division. , whose role within the Allied troops was decisive. Sound and light animation, bird's eye view of the battlefield, filmed projection...
The itinerary of the exhibition, in the company of a guide, gives visitors a complete overview of the history of the Falaise-Chambois pocket, not to forget the heavy human losses of the Battle of Normandy.

Route August 44:
Following the classification of the "Corridor of Death" as a Grand National Site, the Memorial of Mont-Ormel and the PAPAO (Pays d'Argentan and Pays d'Auge Ornais) rebounded by proposing to bring the circuit up to date " August 44". It covers 25 km and crosses the sites of Chambois, Aubry-en-Exmes, Tournai sur Dives and Moissy, St Lambert sur Dives, Coudehard and Mont-Ormel. Today, apart from the Mont-Ormel memorial and the various stelae erected in and around Chambois, nothing can allow us to imagine the scale of the fighting, which took place here in June 1944. Nature has reasserted itself. It is therefore important for visitors to be able to visit the battlefield physically and to be able to understand why this place allowed the encirclement of the Germans. The project has positioned 10 interpretation panels that refer to the Memorial. These panels recreate the battles in the landscape and are illustrated with period photographs. The idea is to have a "during" and an "after" where we discover the same place at the time of the fighting and now, in order to reveal to visitors the violence and the extent of the fighting in this pocket.
